Report - Seminar 2015

First we would like to acknowledge all that gathered around the seminar as moment in the activities that we are developing in Lisbon. Thank you all those were with us in person and at distance following and sending us their remarks through the available channels.

Quantitative:
200 inscriptions; 12 nationalities present; PT; ES; IT; DE; GE; SW; UK; USA; AU; FR; DN;
22 speakers (8 keynotes, 10 delegates, 2 members of executive commission);
2 venues in Historical Lisbon center (Fine Arts Faculty and Mouraria Creative Hub) ;

Qualitative:
After the opening remarks and welcome by the Fine Art Faculty representative, we had the very pertinent image questioning launched by Heitor Alvelos keynote, followed by the first panel that addressed both EU project, publishing experience and gender issues within Urban creativity.


The second panel was characterized by the narratives of flanêurie and photo-documentation, both as methodologies of approaching urban creativity. The following keynotes opened to a broader dimension, including practices from consolidated contemporary authors that work with light and sculpture. Also questioning the preservation approach Peter Bengsten raised issues that were lively discussed with the audience.

New day started with a balance between the quantitative and qualitative great quality examples of approach. Is useful at this moment to mention that is not usual that dealing with urban creativity to use quantitative methods and when it happens is of a great effect due to the enormous number of extrapolations that can occur. Followed by these academic approaches, it was presented the gallery and public art program practice from Lisbon Underdogs.

In the third panel Brazil authors and Portugal relations within communitarian creative practices were lively presented and discussed. The approach of the sub cultural as specific area of analysis was combined with great result along side with the direct contact experience of Swedish reality.


The final presentation in the Fine Art faculty auditorium was addressed by Magda Sayeg that in cut, sharp honest and clear manner presented her work, motivations and perspectives as author, and indubitable “mother” of “yarn bombing” as global movement.

In the Mouraria Creative Hub we experienced another “geography” both in Lisbon roads but also as in knowledge sharing experience. With a full room, both Sintra based Miguel (RAM) and Magda Sayeg presented their personal work process details, sharing unedited and never revealed material.


Meeting of the Street & Urban Creativity scientific Journal: The delegates that made their presentations in the seminar had their full papers reviewed before the seminar dates.
